2013 Blade Trigger Review

The fifth generation Blade Trigger has more nimble performance, better balance, improved overall stability and easier upwind drive. There’s less canopy flutter and slightly more low-end power than last year’s model, with a more compact, smooth, driving feel. These performance enhancements are the product of the 2013 Trigger’s slightly higher aspect ratio,  narrowed middle section and repositioned struts. This seems to benefit the kite’s upwind performance, as well, and also advances the Trigger’s jumping and hang time ability. The Trigger’s steering remains quick and nimble, with light-touch pivotal turns.
We used a prototype bar that is ultra short and compact, with a solid feel and a smooth working swivel. The fact the kite turns so nimbly despite its short bar length is a testament to the kite’s design. The short throw in the trim line offers decent amounts of depower but less than some may be used to. Adjusting the overall depower of the kite is quick, with a clam cleat that is easy to reach and resposition. With compact bridles and just two simple front line pulleys, the Trigger has nimble and light-touch steering, direct feel and good turn response initiation. This kite is well-suited to an intermediate-level rider and can push into higher levels of riding, with better hang time and jumping for 2013.

- Less access to instant depower, with ultra short throw
The shorter trim line offers less ability to cut all the pull out of the kite with more reach.
(Ed Note: The 2013 bar comes with an easy to adjust cleat that can be moved up to increase the throw.)

+ What the SBC Test Team raved about:
“Great freeride kite that seems more exciting steering than some of the easy plug-and-play models.”
“I was impressed with the new low-end power and the overall canopy stability this year—less flutter through the loop and more control, with better lift.”

Cool Tech Features
- One pump
- Simple bridle setup
- New bar design
