Sam Bell is a true Cape Hatteras local. Sam Bell is a team rider for Naish Kiteboarding and teaches for REAL Watersports. Living in Cape Hatteras you need lots of toys to keep you happy on and off the water. Here are just a few of the toys that Sam plays with.
I have a quiver of Naish kites ranging in sizes from 7.5-12. The new 2010 Cult is the all-around kite that I need. These kites allow me to be in the slicks, riding sliders and hitting lips in the ocean. As well being an instructor I can use these straight from my personal session right into a lesson. No need for two different quivers.
I use the stock bar right out of the bag. I do take off the flagging line on my personal bar. I will usually leave one bar bone stock for teaching on. Besides that, hook up and ride.
I have two main boards for kiting. One is the new Momentum 134/42 and the other is the 6’ Global surf. The new Momentum has more rocker then any other Naish board to date. Great for slicks and sliders. The 6’ Global is one of the best kite/surf boards I have been on: Fast and snappy... can’t ask for much more. I keep both of these boards with me at all times. You can never tell if you are in the mood for sliders or ocean riding.
I also only have two main surfboards and will use my girl’s longboard when needed. The first board is a Resin 8 6’4”x18 ¾. The other is a Stretch board called the WHAT. It’s 5’7”x20.8. The Resin 8 is my short board for surf that has the punch and the Stretch is my fun shape for the less powerful days. Girl’s longboard is for the all-around cruise on small days.
Bought this one out in the Hood. Thanks IPS. You just have to have a skateboard. Especially when Jason Slezak just had a bad ass ramp built in his backyard. Ask anyone at the SSS. FUN TIMES.
I have anything from a 4/3 to a 1mm top. Anyone that lives in Hatteras will tell you that you will need it all. You never want to miss a session cause you don’t have the right suit or top.
Ergo Boardshorts. All kinds of hats. Oakley shades. Lots of sunscreen. PBR tall boy with your friends after a great session.
