Josh Mucloy, the 40 year old Santa Cruz native, was one of the first professional surfers to fully embrace the power that a kite can give to a surfboard. The results have been impressive, and opened doors for both Mulcoy and the sport of kiteboarding. He has been nominated for the 2011 AWSI Kiteboarder of the year award.
Sponsors: BWS, Stretch, Fox, Real Kiteboarding
Local spot: Santa Cruz, California, USA Year kiting: 8 Style: Strapless Surf style Favorite destinations: The world is a big place and there is way to many good places to go to only name a few of them. Goals: To make the surf world wake up and realize we are surfing. Other interests: Surfing, Mountain Biking, Wakesurfing and photography Sponsors: BWS, Fox, Real, Dakine, Kaenon, Vans, Future fins and Stretch Boards Mulcoy is a legend in the surf industry, but if you asked him, he’d just say “Nah, I just love surfing”. He has that mysterious enjoyment for solitude, finding the perfect wave and he seems to go where no one else wants to, “the least amount of people the better” Josh would say. He has never been after the limelight, but of coarse that is going to come with being as talented and like able as what Josh is. Mulcoy’s kitesurfing journey began way back in the beginning when he first saw Peter Trow tearing the back out of waves way before anyone else new what was going on, Mulcoy saw the comparisons to surfing and jumped right on it. It goes without saying that when a guy like Josh can surf as well as he can, that when he learnt to fly the kite he was going to be one of the best.
