It was an exciting competition day here at the Dakhla-Attitude in Morocco. The freestyle single eliminations got underway early this morning at approximately 9:15am with great wind conditions. Riders were mostly on their 9-11m kites, which entails that the wind was quite a bit lighter than the past couple of days averaging roughly 20 knots.
Just briefly after 2:00pm the freestyle single eliminations wrapped up with a great outcome. Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED) defeated Alex Pastor (Airush, ESP) in the men’s final earning him another single elimination title here in Morocco. Pastor is back on the podium finishing in second place while Andy Yates (Slingshot, AUS) takes third place in the freestyle singles eliminations. The riding level of all riders is extremely high this season therefore making the fight for the freestyle world title very intense.
Robinson Hilario (F-ONE, DOM) hailing from Dominican Republic had an awesome heat against Youri Zoon (Slingshot, NED) today but in the final seconds before the end of the heat he required assistance due to what it seemed like as a serious leg injury. Hilario was transported to the hospital and treated for his minor injury and is now doing well.
In the women’s division, it was a great day for Bruna Kajiya (Flexifoil, ESP). Kajiya defeated Gisela Pulido (Airush, ESP) in the women’s freestyle single elimination final in a 5/0 judge’s decision. Kajiya is back in the game to earning yet another PKRA World Tour title. Pulido will take second place for the single elimination while Karolina Winkowska (Slingshot, POL) finishes in third place.
Riders and crew packed up and made their way to the wave spot which is near the town of Dakhla about 25 kilometers away from where the freestyle discipline takes place. The first as well as the second round of the wave double eliminations were completed and will resume tomorrow if the wind and wave conditions permit.
The mandatory skipper’s meeting is set for 8:30am.
