Reaching out to the girls in the metropolitan San Francisco area KB4girls will hold an event at Sherman Island in the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta from June 19th to 20th. Only an hour and a half drive away from San Francisco kiteboarders can find the perfect kite location with plenty of wind, warm water and lots of sunshine (even if the famous fog is passing over the city). Sherman Island attracts water sports enthusiasts going way back and today is the kite Mecca of California. No wonder that the demand for this particular event in the KB4girls tour schedule is huge and almost all the 30 available spots are already booked. The event promises to be a lot of fun and a great success with World Champion Kristin Boese teamed up with Kitopia school owner and pro rider Sandy Parker teaching the girls new skills and camping out at Sherman Island for the weekend. Kristin Boese: "The KB4girls events are really exciting for the participating girls as they usually never get to meet with girls that share the same interest. However, the events including a camp out are always just this little bit more exciting and have a great "back to the roots" feel allowing the girls to bond even more. I am 100% sure that the Sherman Island event is going to be a great success and am personally really looking forward to it!" Sherman Island offers very steady thermal winds from May thru September and the local kite spot features flat water flowing between a number of grassy islands and a slightly more advanced onshore launch. Sandy Parker, owner of "Kitopia" kite school says: "We are very excited to host a KB4girls event with Kristin Boese this year. Being a women owning a kite school and having an opportunity to be a part of an event like this is an honor. We opened Kitopia in 2002 and are now happy to share our knowledge and experience from years of teaching at Sherman Island with other women in the sport and to support the event with local organization, safety and boat support." The local support for the KB4girls event in California is amazing and next to local Organizer Kitopia we will have Leanne Greene and Boardsports School & Shop take care of catering and BBQ. Photographer Josh Anon will shoot great images of the girls during the weekend and donate his time for the female kiteboarding community. While the tour gives female athletes from around the world the chance to get together for a fun time together it also motivates them to push their kiteboarding skills to the next level and possibly start to compete in kiteboarding. Another goal of the KB4girls events is to support the Surfrider Foundation Europe and the protection of the oceans and beaches. While registration fees are being donated to the Foundation educational materials are being supplied in return and given out to all participating girls, teaching them about their precious playgrounds and how to possibly help to protect them.
