2015 Cabrinha Switchblade
Size Tested: 10m
The 2015 model year marks the 10-year anniversary of Cabrinha Switchblade. Without a doubt one of the top selling kites in the world, the Switchblade is a cornerstone of the Cabrinha line. The 2014 model was praised by SBC testers for its excellent overall performance in particular for delivering tons of power, range and at the same time excelling for unhooked riding. The 2015 model year is, as expected, more of a refinement than a retool. Why mess with success? Key changes to the 2015 model were aimed at improving Kite Loop ability, in particular smoother power through the turns. Some minor tweaks to what are clearly a premium level of construction were made in order to further add stability to the kite. On the water, the 2015 Switchblade didn’t fail to impress, offering tons of easily accessible power and it felt smooth and consistently powerful through the turns. The 10 years of evolution show, making the Switchblade a highly refined kite with a rock-solid shape completely devoid of flutter and distortion that leaves a rider with a feeling of massive confidence.
The Switchblade is super powerful and, as with most kites that excel at unhooked performance, it generates a lot of power by sitting a little farther back in the window. This is all fine for performance twin-tip riding, but for dedicated directional and surfboard riding, other models in the Cabrinha line such at the Drifter would be a better fit. All that being said, this is a great, polished kite that can do pretty much anything.
Riders of all levels who want optimum hooked or unhooked freestlye and freeride performance and are willing to step into a premium, top-of-the-line product.
