The Rebel is one of the best-selling kites North has ever built, and is much loved by many for its universal nature, solid power and precision handling. The Rebel continues in refinement in 2013, and not only competes as the universal kite but reaches for the top in the Wave and Freeride category. Similar feel and character to previous Rebels, but with more nimble handling that champions this kites bid to blend the responsiveness of a three-strut kite with the rock solid stability of North’s loaded fifth-line, 5-strut designs. The upwind drive and smooth power is accented with good low-end grunt and a clean and crisp flying character that ensure a confident wind range.
The Rebel turns quickly, with smooth power generation and direct handling, and bar pressure that may be heavier than the average 3-strut but is adjustable to preference and not fatiguing. The kite gives perfect feedback for waveriding or keeping a track on its position while boosting big airs. It holds together solidly, with flutter-resistant canopy distortions that keep it driving with balance at the edge of the window, and will steer with good precision even while depowered. The Rebel offers outstanding hooked-in jumping capability, with solid lift and drift, and good reaction for smooth landings every time. Solid low-end power is also delivered for amazing upwind ability, and the Rebel can handle its own in certain race conditions. Any rider who wants a versatile kite with top-quality build, and performance that suits freeriding and waveriding should consider the Rebel as a top choice.
- Still feels heavier in the sky than the some three-strut easy drifters
The Rebel’s heavy-duty construction will keep the kite crisp in heavy wave breaks, but also feels heavier in the sky than some of the nimble flying three-strut kites out there, but it likely boosts better and feels more solid through gust than a lot of three-strut kites.
